KBOR USS-UPS Shared Council
The particulars
Quick acronym guide
- KBOR: Kansas Board of Regents
- USS: University Support Staff
- UPS: Unclassified Professional Staff
The KBOR USS-UPS Shared Council is a coalition of Staff Senate representatives from six Regents universities across the state of Kansas: KU, K-State, Wichita State, Pittsburg State, Emporia State, and Fort Hays State.
What is the purpose of the council? What are its activities?
The council's purpose is three-fold:
- Foster relationships and communication among the Staff Senate leaders at each of the six KBOR institutions
- Collaborate on opportunities and issues impacting staff
- Present opportunities and issues impacting staff across institutions to the State University Council of Presidents (COPs)
Monthly group council meetings are a means for each Regents university to share current news and events, changes in university policies, new leadership, and any other items of interest to USS & UPS employees at these institutions.
in 2022, the council began work with the Docking Institute of Public Affairs at Fort Hays State University to formulate and conduct a statewide survey of UPS & USS employees. The "Docking Survey" is conducted every three years across the council's six Regents universities; its questions focus on topics related to employee satisfaction.
At KU, Staff Senate participants in the council serve on the KU Docking Survey Advisory Team to help analyze and disseminate survey results and craft recommendations for the Provost's consideration. A summary of the 2022 survey findings and Advisory Team activities can be found on AIRE's website.
Who can join the council, and what is the process to join?
All elected Senators are eligible to serve on the council, and there is no limit to the number of Senators who can volunteer to join. A call for volunteers is traditionally held annually during the Staff Senate transition meeting each April.
